  • Kolkata Hospital Rape and Murd, RG Kar Medical College Inciden, Doctor Protests Across India

In response to the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, doctors across India have declared an indefinite strike. The protest, which includes halting all elective services in hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and other cities, is driven by demands for enhanced security for medical personnel and a comprehensive investigation into the crime. The tragic incident has shocked the medical community and sparked widespread outrage.

The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was found dead in a seminar hall at the government-run hospital in Kolkata. The initial autopsy report revealed severe injuries and evidence of assault, heightening concerns about the safety of medical staff. In the wake of this horrifying discovery, City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal assured the public of a transparent probe while urging against the spread of rumors.

Police have arrested Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with no official ties to RG Kar Medical College, who frequented the hospital. Roy allegedly attempted to destroy evidence after the crime. The arrest has brought some progress in the investigation, but the strike by doctors continues as they demand justice and improved safety measures in hospitals nationwide.
