- Delhi Excise Policy, Bail Plea, Kavitha Kalvakuntla
Kavitha Kalvakuntla, a prominent BRS MLC and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, has been in custody for approximately five months. Her detention stems from allegations of corruption and money laundering related to the controversial Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. She was arrested on March 15th at her Hyderabad residence and has faced setbacks in her legal battle to secure bail.
Following the Delhi High Court's dismissal of her bail pleas, which deemed her a significant figure in the alleged conspiracy, Kavitha Kalvakuntla appealed to the Supreme Court for relief. However, the apex court has not yet granted her bail and has instead requested responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning her case. The Supreme Court is set to review her challenges against the High Court's decision, considering similar pleas by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia.
Despite her legal team's arguments, led by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, pointing to precedents set in other related bail cases, Kavitha Kalvakuntla remains behind bars as the judicial process continues. The Supreme Court’s request for further responses indicates that she may need to remain in custody for additional time before a decision on her bail is reached.
