The trend of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLAs defecting to the Congress party in Telangana shows no signs of slowing down. Following their defeat in the December 2023 elections, a significant number of BRS MLAs have switched their loyalties, with Patancheru MLA Mahipal Reddy becoming the tenth to join Congress last month. This exodus has now extended to five more BRS MLAs who are reportedly in talks with the Congress high command, awaiting approval from CM and TPCC president Revanth Reddy to make the switch.

Among the MLAs considering defection are Zaheerabad MLA Manik Rao, Alampur MLA Vijayudu, and Boath MLA Anil Jadhav, all of whom are said to have received a positive response from the party leadership. Additionally, there are reports of MLAs from Greater Hyderabad showing interest in leaving the BRS for Congress. The Congress party has expressed willingness to welcome these leaders with open arms, aiming to strengthen its position ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the state.

With 10 BRS MLAs already having joined Congress and five more expected to follow suit soon, the party is strategically positioning itself to secure a significant advantage in the upcoming elections. By attracting BRS MLAs, the Congress high command hopes to thwart any comeback plans of the opposition party and establish dominance across Telangana. The ongoing defections suggest a shifting political landscape in the state, with parties vying for power and influence in the run-up to the crucial local body polls.
