Love Today is a raging hit in Tamil. The film is dubbed and released in Telugu today and here's our review of the same. The film is written and directed by Pradeep Ranganathan who also played the lead role in it.

Story: Pradeep and Nikhita are neck deep in love and they decide to get married. When Pradeep meets Nikhita's father and asks his permission to wed his daughter, the latter sets up a challenge. He asks the young couple to exchange their phones for 24 hours and if they're willing to get married after it's done, then he is ok with it. What follows later forms the rest of the plot as the couple discover their darkest secrets.
How did the actors perform?

The film entirely revolves around Pradeep, Raveena SR, Inaya, and Satyaraj. The lead cast has performed to the best of their capabilities. Pradeep is good in the youthful role and so is Inaya. They make a good pair on screen and their act is relatable which is the all-important thing for this youthful love drama. Satyaraj is composed and he delivers a fine act. Raveena is also good in her role.

What about the technical finesse?

Pradeep succeeds both as the protagonist and also as the director. Perhaps he scores better as the director. His writing is sharp, relatable and effective. The way he encapsulates the mindsets of the modern day youth is to be appreciated. The film touches on a very unique yet conventional aspect of our day to day lives. The comedy works out in both halves. The climax and end portion are emotional and they pack a punch.

But the narrative is a bit dragged out in the opening exchanges. The story settling in period is a tad overstretched. A good 15 minutes have been dedicated to establish the core plot. But once it starts, the film progresses at a fine pace to make for an engaging watch.

The background score and songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja are on point. He touches the right tropes with his soundtrack. Cinematography is adequate and so are the making values.

What's Good?

  • Relatable factor
  • Comedy
  • Emotional connect

What's Not?

  • Dragged opening exchanges
  • Not for the elderly

Verdict: Love Today is a youthful love drama that caters to the younger generation of the audience. There's enough dose of comedy and emotions to make for an engaging watch. But it evidently isn't for all sections of audience as the middle-aged and elderly might not connect with the same. But nevertheless, it does the job. It can make for a compelling watch this weekend.
