Writer Padmabhushan, featuring talented young actor Suhas in the lead role released in theaters today. The film is promoted as a properly entertaining comedy-drama. Here's our review of the film.
Story: Padmabhushan is an assistant librarian who writes a book and hopes to make it big. But this is of no avail as the book gets a disaster response. He then writes another book which then turns out to be a blockbuster. But there's a catch here. What is the conflict here? Did Padmabhushan actually write the second book?
How did the actors perform?
The film is mostly powered by fine performers including the main man himself, Suhas, who is tailor-made for a role like this. He shines bright in the character of an assistant librarian who aspires to become a happening writer one day. His natural nuances have a relatable vibe.
Ashish Vidyarthi is sublime as the male lead's father. He delivers a refined performance and has a certain bite about his character. Rohini is also very good in the mother role and she puts up a fitting performance.
What about the technical finesse?
The film mostly tracks along on a comical note with the narrative revolving around the plight of Padmabhushan, a struggling writer who aspires to make it big. The narrative centers around him writing the book and facing the challenges that come with it.
The background score and the cinematography are of standard quality. The production values and the visual presentation aid the optical aspect.
Analysis:
Writer Padmabhushan is an entertaining comedy drama that progresses along on a comical note for most parts. An aspiring writer from a middle-class family hoping to make it big with his books sounds interesting.
The opening exchanges in the first half are used to establish the characters and this is the only time we feel there's a lag in the narrative. The establishment track is slow paced but that is understandable as it comes in handy in the latter half to extract the desired drama.
The film has a thoroughly entertaining latter half where the proceedings pertaining to Padmabhushan's second book take the center stage. And the hook point related to the protagonist's engagement looks good.
Verdict: Writer Padmabhushan is a comedy entertainer that has just about enough impetus to make for a decent watch this weekend The plot is fresh and appealing. However, it appeals almost entirely to the A center audience. But for those who love comedy dramas it will make for a very good watch.
