The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts due to a low-pressure system over the Gulf of Mannar. The Central Meteorological Department has also declared a high alert for central and southern Kerala. An orange alert is in effect for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Thrissur districts, while a yellow alert has been issued for all other districts, excluding Kannur and Kasargod.

The low-pressure system, which is expected to move toward the south Tamil Nadu coast over the next 24 hours, may weaken in intensity. However, the IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places today, with heavy rainfall expected on December 12 and 13. The situation requires caution and preparedness in the affected regions.
