In an unprecedented event, Vijayawada experienced over 29 cm of rainfall in a single day, marking the worst flooding recorded in the history of the Krishna River. The new NDA government, led by Chandrababu Naidu, faced this severe calamity with a series of pioneering measures. This crisis prompted innovative approaches and set new benchmarks in disaster management.
For the first time in India, the Andhra Pradesh government deployed drones for relief operations, delivering essential supplies directly to affected areas. This initiative garnered praise from Union Minister Shiv Raj Singh Chauhan, highlighting the government's forward-thinking approach. Additionally, fire trucks and their equipment were repurposed for sanitation, clearing debris from homes and providing rapid relief in an inventive manner.
Chandrababu Naidu also introduced a unique support system for the victims by offering free services from electricians and plumbers, trained through a government skill development program. This initiative, combined with Naidu's record-breaking commitment—spending ten days stationed in the flood-hit area—demonstrated an exceptional level of leadership and dedication, ensuring that the relief operations were both effective and compassionate.
