In just four days, Matka, the highly anticipated period action drama starring Varun Tej, will hit the big screens. Ahead of its release, the film’s pre-release event was held in Vizag, where the movie team, including Varun Tej and his wife Lavanya Tripathi, gathered to celebrate the occasion with a massive crowd of fans and film enthusiasts.
Director Karuna Kumar, known for his vision and storytelling, shared that Vizag holds a special place in his heart, as it has witnessed many highs and lows in his life. He explained that Matka draws inspiration from the rich history of Vizag, a city that, much like Mumbai, is home to a diverse range of settlers and has grown from a small village to a bustling global city. The movie is a fictional narrative, inspired by the lives of some of Vizag’s infamous gangsters.
Karuna Kumar also praised Varun Tej’s dedication to the film. He shared that after hearing just one pivotal scene of Matka, Varun Tej immediately gave his nod to the project. "Varun has never failed as an actor, and his performance in Matka is outstanding," said Karuna. One particular scene, which Varun shot in a single take, is expected to become iconic in the history of Telugu cinema.
Music composer GV Prakash, known for his powerful soundtracks, has composed the music for Matka, and the director assured fans that the score will give them goosebumps, elevating the film’s intense action sequences.
Varun Tej, in his speech at the event, revealed that Matka tells the story of his character Vasu, who starts as a 16-year-old refugee from Burma and rises to become the feared Matka King. The film’s cast includes Meenakshi and Nora, both of whom delivered stellar performances. Varun also expressed his excitement at working again with actor Naveen Chandra, highlighting the strong camaraderie on set.
Reflecting on his career, Varun admitted that he had made some wrong choices following his success with Gaddalakonda Ganesh, but emphasized that director Karuna Kumar had brought out his true potential as an actor. "Karuna has a great vision for the film," Varun said, acknowledging the positive impact the director had on his performance. He also credited his family, especially his brother Charan, for their unwavering support throughout his journey. Charan’s encouraging words during the pressure of the pre-release phase had been a great source of strength for Varun.
The event concluded with Varun Tej delivering a powerful dialogue from the film, further raising anticipation for Matka's release. Fans are eager to see how this gripping period drama unfolds on the big screen.
