- Pawan Kalyan, Kakinada Seaport, Smuggling Operations
In a seminar with Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan raised serious concerns about the ongoing smuggling operations at the Kakinada Seaport. He used the example of Ajmal Kasab and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to emphasize the importance of robust border security, warning that similar threats could arise from unchecked smuggling activities. Despite three check posts on the route to the port, smuggling continues, raising alarms about the potential risks to national security.
Kalyan criticized local authorities, including the Collectors and SPs, for their lack of vigilance, calling them to take responsibility for monitoring and preventing such activities. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the operations of the vigilance department, urging them to improve their performance so that ministers wouldn’t need to personally inspect the port. This is not the first time Kalyan has raised the issue of Kakinada port security, and with his repeated emphasis on national security, there is a growing expectation for immediate corrective actions to be taken in the coming weeks.
