The once-close relationship between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister Sharmila has deteriorated dramatically, leading to a significant rift that has reverberated throughout the state's political landscape. Sharmila, who initially supported Jagan's rise in 2019, has turned into a formidable adversary, contributing to a historic decline in the YCP’s political fortunes. Analysts suggest that internal disputes, particularly over the distribution of property and personal clashes, have driven a wedge between the siblings.

The central issue in their conflict appears to be Sharmila's demand for the YS family's prestigious Lotus Pond house in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Jagan's reluctance to transfer ownership of this valuable property led Sharmila to intensify her political attacks against him. As a result, the YCP saw its seat count plummet from 151 to 11 in the 2024 elections, highlighting the severe impact of their familial discord on the party’s fortunes.

In a bid to resolve the ongoing dispute and mitigate the damage to his political career, Jagan has reportedly decided to relinquish the Lotus Pond house to Sharmila. This move is intended to appease his sister and reduce her political aggression. Political insiders reveal that a senior Congress figure from Karnataka facilitated this resolution, underscoring the high stakes and intricate nature of the negotiations. Jagan’s recent shift in residence from the Lotus Pond house to the Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru further fuels speculation about the family's internal struggles.
