The mutual fund industry in India reported net outflows of ₹71,114.08 crore for September 2024, as per the latest data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). This decline follows a staggering 42.8% drop in August, where cumulative inflows into mutual funds were recorded at ₹1.08 lakh crore.
Equity mutual funds saw a decline in inflows by 9.9% in September, totaling ₹34,419.26 crore, down from ₹38,239.16 crore in August. The net assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry stood at ₹67.09 lakh crore, a slight increase from ₹66.7 lakh crore the previous month.
Category-Wise Inflows
The sectoral and thematic funds category remains the largest by AUM, with ₹4.67 lakh crore. This segment accounted for over 38.5% of flows into actively managed equity funds, drawing ₹13,254.63 crore in September, although this was down from ₹18,117.18 crore in August.
Small-cap funds reported inflows of ₹3,070.84 crore, while mid-cap schemes attracted ₹3,130.42 crore, showing minor fluctuations from the previous month. Inflows into large-cap funds dropped to ₹1,769.42 crore from ₹2,636.9 crore in August. Flexi-cap funds also saw a decrease, with inflows of ₹3,214.57 crore compared to ₹3,513.16 crore the month before. Index funds experienced a slight uptick, with inflows reaching ₹1,960.29 crore.
Fixed Income Funds
The fixed income segment witnessed a significant net outflow of ₹1.14 lakh crore. Liquid funds recorded outflows of ₹72,665.97 crore in September, contrasting sharply with ₹13,594.87 crore of inflow in August. Credit-risk funds also faced outflows of ₹483.6 crore.
New Fund Offers (NFOs)
New Fund Offers brought in ₹14,575 crore during September, a slight increase from ₹13,815 crore in August. Notably, index funds saw the highest number of NFOs, with 13 new offerings accounting for ₹3,656 crore in inflow, reflecting a growing investor interest in passive funds.
Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs)
SIP contributions reached an all-time high of ₹24,508.73 crore in September, compared to ₹23,547.34 crore in August. The number of SIP accounts also rose to a record 9.87 lakh crore, up from 9.61 lakh crore in the previous month. The SIP AUM hit a new peak at ₹13.81 lakh crore, an increase from ₹13.38 lakh crore in August.
