The Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister, Payyavula Keshav, presented a Budget of Rs 2,94,427 crore for the financial year 2024-25, marking a 5.40% increase from the previous year. The budget allocation includes Rs 2,35,916 crore for revenue expenditure and Rs 32,712 crore for capital expenditure. The estimated revenue deficit is around Rs 34,743 crore, with a fiscal deficit of approximately Rs 68,742 crore, accounting for 4.19% and 2.12% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) respectively.
This comprehensive budget, the first full-fledged one by the TDP-led NDA government since taking office in June, focuses on key sectors. Significant allocations include Rs 29,909 crore for school education, Rs 11,855 crore for agriculture and allied sectors, Rs 18,497 crore for Scheduled Castes welfare, and Rs 7,557 crore for Scheduled Tribes welfare. Additionally, Rs 39,007 crore has been earmarked for Backward Classes welfare, Rs 4,376 crore for minorities welfare, and Rs 4,285 crore for women and child welfare.
The Finance Minister also proposed allocations for various other sectors, such as Rs 1,215 crore for human resources development, Rs 2,326 crore for higher education, Rs 18,421 crore for health, Rs 16,739 crore for panchayat raj and rural development, and Rs 11,490 crore for urban development. The budget also includes expenditures for housing, water resources, industry and commerce, energy, roads and buildings, tourism and culture, police department, and environment, forests, sciences, and technology.
In a separate budget presentation for agriculture, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu outlined specific allocations to support the growth and development of the agricultural sector in Andhra Pradesh.
