The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s 50-year regime has ushered in a new chapter for Syria, marked by jubilation and uncertainty. In Damascus, crowds celebrated the regime's collapse, while other groups, including rebel factions, engaged in efforts to stabilize the country and fill the power vacuum left behind. Syrian journalist Abdo Fayyad attributes this shift to the 2016 opposition victories in Idlib, which laid the groundwork for today’s rebel advances.
While the future remains uncertain, with millions of displaced Syrians hoping to return home, the opposition has expressed a commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of Syria's diverse communities. The Syrian opposition’s military operations, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), aim to restore order and manage the return of displaced people.
The international community, including the US and the UN, is watching closely, while regional powers like Israel and Turkey adjust their strategies. The country faces numerous challenges, such as the aftermath of the Captagon trade, healthcare infrastructure damage, and the establishment of a transitional government under Mohammed al-Bashir.
The rebels have also introduced a new flag, symbolizing the revolution and marking the end of Assad’s rule. With the HTS at the helm, Syria’s future remains uncertain, but the resilience of its people offers hope for a better tomorrow.
